PEER’s Defend the Sacred Sub-committee invites you to "Mascots, Columbus, Pocahotties and Thanksgiving: A Native Perspective," Southampton, NY

ABOUT THE HOST: We, PEER’s Defend the Sacred Sub-committee, welcome you to the Shinnecock Community Center for a potluck dinner, including traditional foods, for discussion on controversial topics and the oppression that they represent to indigenous peoples. Members of the Shinnecock community will share their perspective on what it’s like to be a Native American in the difficult months of October and November and lead conversation that promotes dignity and respect in the face of stereotypical and/or misinformed narratives behind mascots, Columbus, Pocahotties, and Thanksgiving. Please feel free to bring a dish of your choice. Please also try to be as plastic-free as possible!

ABOUT THE EVENING: This is a Track II: Bridging gathering.
